President Mahinda Rajapaksa has declared that the government had no intention of betraying or reversing the victories achieved by the war heroes, sacrificing their lives.
Whatever obstacles they confront, the President emphasised that the mission to eradicate terrorism will not be halted. The government could not be made to retreat by anyone from the victorious path they are now treading to eliminate terrorism from the motherland in toto. There was an era the terrorists were assumed to be indomitable. This mistaken concept has been proved to be a myth. He asserted that the people and the motherland are supreme, invincible and indomitable. He referred to the priceless services discharged by the gallant war heroes in winning an array of battles.
The President took part in the colourful gallantry awards investiture ceremony at the BMICH yesterday. Weera Wickrama, Vibushanaya, Rana Wickrama Medal and the Rana Saru Medal were awarded to the war heroes. He pointed out that the war heroes had been able to display to the entire world how terrorism can be defeated. The wish of all mothers today is to give birth to a child who can save the nation. The President added that they were not prepared to exploit the war for political gains or leverage. Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayame, President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunge, Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapakse, Army Chief Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka, Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunatillake, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, and Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera were among those who graced the occasion.
