Political party representatives express views on the Pooneryn victory ................. Representatives of various political parties have expressed their views with regard to the capture of Pooneryn, giving more hopes for the majority Tamil civilians of the North .................... Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said it is a critical measure adopted to change the situation where narrow political forces had sacrificed the security forces and national security. An 88 kilometre land route from Mannar to Pooneryn has been opened, sans a single civilian being killed. JVP Parliamentarian K.D. Lalkantha opined that it is a great victory akin to the capture of Kilinochchi. The Security Forces have successfully carried forward the battle. JNP Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa noted that the capture of Pooneryn is similar to minimising the terrorist threat in the Jaffna Peninsula. The LTTE has lost the sea route from Colombo to Jaffna and their supply route has been disrupted. He saluted the troops for the victory. TMVP Parliamentarian Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan said the people in Jaffna can now work in liaison with the Southern polity. The Tamil civilians are happy. He was optimistic that the troops will be able to capture Kilinochchi within a few days.
